COPY To copy Files and or Directories to another location use the COPY command. You can copy Files or Folders (Directories) from one location on the hard drive to another, one hard drive to another hard drive, to a floppy disk or removable media. There are a number of ways to copy Files and or Folders. One of the easiest is to open Windows Explorer (Explorer.exe). Find and highlight the Files or Folders you want to copy. You can highlight or select the Files or Folders by left button clicking the mouse once on the first file you wish to copy and while holding the Shift key down, left click on the last file to select. All files in between will be selected and highlighted. You can also left click the mouse and and while holding the button down, drag the pointer over the files you wish to select. If the files you want to select are not contiguous you can click on the individual files with the left mouse button while hold down the CONTROL key. Once the files or folders are selected position the mouse pointer over the selected files and hold down the Right mouse button and drag the selected Files and or Folders to the desired location. Release the mouse button. You will be asked if you want to COPY or Move the Files or Folders. Select COPY with the left mouse button. The Files and or Folders will be copied to the new destination leaving the originals in the original place. COPY vs. MOVE The COPY command actually makes a copy of the data that you selected to another location leaving the original. The MOVE command moves the data to the new location removing it from the original. You will want to use the COPY command when you want to copy data to a different location but also want it in the original location. It is also a good idea to use COPY if the data that you are copying is delicate. By this I mean that if the data is important or cannot be replaced there is always the possibility of loosing it by using MOVE instead of COPY. This could happen if there was suddenly a power surge or the power went off during the MOVE process. If this happened during COPY you can always go back and COPY again from the original location. If you do not want the data in the original location after the copy you can always delete it.
